The University Center Kauaˊi completed its 33rd successful year assisting residents with achieving their educational goals through distance learning. I am proud to share that 40 students are receiving postsecondary diplomas this graduation season. This year, there are three graduates from University of Hawaiˊi Hilo, 18 graduates from University of Hawaiˊi West Oahu, and 19 graduates from University of Hawaiˊi Manoa. Degrees from Bachelor’s through doctorate are being awarded and fields of study include business administration, education, interdisciplinary studies, nursing, public administration, social sciences, and social work. Graduates have the option of participating in either the university graduation ceremony or Kauaˊi Community College’s, which will be held at Vidinha Stadium on May 10th at 6:15 pm.
Currently, the University of Hawaiˊi System offers more than 60 distance education programs so you can stay on Kauaˊi and obtain additional education for personal enrichment or career advancement. Mahalo to everyone who participated in the survey administered by the University Center Kauaˊi in 2018. We learned that 58% of respondents work full-time, 78% of respondents would like additional education, and 68% of respondents seek online scheduling. Career pathways of interest included healthcare fields, business, and education. These results have been shared with the College as well as the University of Hawaiˊi System to help inform future program development and course modalities.
