  • JNU is one of ten Flagship Korean National Universities, founded in 1952 in Jeju City, the provincial capital of Jeju, South Korea.
  • Jeju Island is located off the Korean Peninsula, about an hour plane ride from Seoul, the capital of South Korea.
  • Jeju has mild, warm weather during much of the year, and has a unique ecosystem and distinct traditional culture.
  • Jeju welcomes over ten million visitors every year, mainly from the South Korean mainland, Japan, and China.
  • The population is roughly 490,000 (in 2024).
  • The university has academic exchange relationships with 83 universities in 16 countries, with the largest number of these being Chinese and Japanese.
  • Exchange students who study at JNU mostly take Korean language and culture classes.

Program Options:

  • Korean Language Program (KLP): Exchange students have the option to enroll in the Korean Language Program (KLP), a full-time language course.
  • Academic Classes (excluding Education, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Law, and Pharmacy): Students who are fluent in Korean or have achieved TOPIK level 3 or higher can enroll in regular academic classes.

Language of Instruction: Most undergraduate classes operated by each department are conducted in Korean. However, some regular classes and Exchange student-only classes offered by the Office of International Affairs (OIA) are taught in English. These English-taught classes provide options for students who do not meet the Korean language proficiency requirements or prefer to study in English.
