STAR shows I have some restrictions.  What does it mean?
Please click here for the description and for the next step info.

I am locked out, what should I do?
Please contact STAR (email at starhelp@hawaii.edu or Phone (808) 956-4036). Please also note that when entering your username, omit the ‘@hawaii.edu’.
If you have forgotten your username or password, please contact the ITS Help Desk (email to help@hawaii.edu or phone: (808) 956-8883)

What is a time ticket restriction?
This is occurring because you are attempting to register before your assigned registration date and time at your home campus. You may view your registration date time on the Registration Checklist, or by clicking the Settings menu and selecting Time Ticket Information. Please note that you may have different registration start dates if you are trying to register at multiple campuses, since time tickets are based on earned and officially transferred, (completed - not in progress), credits at that institution.

What if I have a hold on my account?
If you have a hold, you will be prompted with a checklist after you click “registration-Add/Drop” button. Please contact the numbers indicated in the check list box to resolve any issues. If your hold is not in effect (in Blue or Yellow font), you will still be able to register. Holds in red fonts will prevent you from registering, but you will still be able to use a “Preview mode” feature that will allow you to build a course schedule. However, you will not be able to submit your registration until your hold is resolved.

What does Prerequisite Error or Instructor Approval mean?
You cannot register for this course because you have not met certain prerequisites or your placement test scores do not allow you to register for this course. Review the course prerequisites by contacting the department/college/advising office. Students who receive these errors, but believe they are eligible to register into this course must receive an override either from the Counseling/Advising Office or the instructor of the course before being able to register for the class.

Some of my courses/credits didn’t transfer in; why not, and whom can I talk to?
The Admissions office completes an initial transfer evaluation. If you have any questions about this, please contact your campus admission office.

How do I delete requirements on my pathway (GPS Registration tab)?
On graduation pathway you cannot delete classes required for your major. You may move them to different semesters or to the sandbox on the far right. We would recommend consulting with an academic advisor for questions about these courses.

Why don’t I have a pathway?
Please consult with your academic counselor for the requirement you need for your degree. Pathways for unclassified undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students are not available yet.

How do I rearrange the courses I want to take for each semester on my pathway?
In order to rearrange the courses you would like to take for each semester, please click and drag the courses to a different semester on your Graduation Pathway (GPS Registration Tab page). Please click here for help docs and tutorial videos. We highly recommend you consult with your academic advisor to ensure your changes are appropriately made.

How do I add and drop a course?
To add and drop a class, you can go back into the STAR GPS Registration. You should see the course you registered for with a button labeled ‘Drop’ to the left of it. After clicking the Drop/Add button, click the submit registration button again.  Any changes to your registration status may impact benefits you are receiving (e.g., financial aid, veterans benefits).

How do I register for online classes?
You can utilize the search engine on the left side to search for specific online classes on the registration page. Click “SHOW MORE FILTERS” on the bottom of the registration page. Change the instruction type to "Distance - Completely online". You can also click different campuses for the available options.

How do I change my pathway/major on STAR?
We would recommend consulting with your academic advisor to change your major. If you would like to preview what your pathway would look like with a different major, you can use the “What If Journey” to see the differences . Please note that to change your major, you will need to consult with your advisor and submit the required paperwork to each department or records office depending on the school.

Is there any recommended search browser to use?

A: You should be able to use any browser to register via STAR GPS registration.  If you have any technical issues, please let us know. (STAR email to starhelp@hawaii.edu or Phone (808) 956-4036)

Why am I getting a ‘Repeat Count Exceeds 0’ error?
“Repeat count exceeds 0” means that you have previously completed this course at your home campus or at another institution.  Please check the current catalog/or your academic advisor before deciding to repeat a course. If necessary, please obtain approval (override) from the department instructor offering the course.

How will I know if the course I am waitlisted in has opened up?
When a seat becomes available for you in the class that you've waitlisted for, an email will be sent to your hawaii.edu email address notifying you. The email will list the class and give you a deadline(24 hours-48 hours) to register for this seat. You may then log back into STAR GPS-Registration, click "Move to Cart" for that course, then click “Submit Registration”. It is important that you check your email frequently if you waitlist for any class. Once the deadline to register for the seat has passed, the seat will be given to the next person on the waitlist.

How can I search for focus classes?
To search for focus courses (e.g., WI, HAP, ETH, OC, etc.), go to STAR GPS registration and click “Show More Filters” in the search box on the bottom left, select the focus requirement(s), and click the “Search” button.

How can I search for courses by CRN?
If you have been provided a CRN for your class, enter the CRN number in the search box in the filter function on the left, then click the “Search” button. If you cannot find the course within the requirements provided, please add a Personal Choice and try the search again.  Please make sure to change to the appropriate campus and semester from the drop down menu on the top left before searching it.  Eg., Manoa Summer 2017 or Manoa Summer Extension 2017

How do I change credits for my variable credit course?
To edit your variable credit course, go to your star GPS registration page. Click register for the appropriate semester. Click expand for the class you wish to edit. Click change next to the credit detail to change the credit value. Re-submit your registration to process your changes.

I recently changed majors. When will the changes show on my STAR account?
Please allow a few weeks for your major change to be processed. In the meantime, you can click on the “What If Journey” tab to preview your pathway in your new major.

How do I print my schedule?
To print, you should see a small ‘print’ button next to the “Register - Add/Drop Classes” button on the GPS Registration page after logging in. Additionally, to print out the weekly class schedule, please go to the GPS-Registration page, then click on the "Register Add/Drop Classes" button. When you are in the registration page, click on the hamburger (three horizontal lines) button at the upper right corner. Then select print from the list of items.  It will display your schedule. Click print at the upper right corner.
