“Malia Nobrega-Olivera was born and raised in Hanapēpē Valley, Kona, Kauaʻi. She is a proud graduate of Waimea High School and the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Malia is a Native Hawaiian educator, a salt maker, a kumu hula, a certified health coach, and an advocate of indigenous rights at all levels – locally, regionally, and internationally. Her experiences demonstrate her commitment to her people, language, and culture and to indigenous peoples worldwide. Ms. Nobrega-Olivera’s advocacy work has taken her to various international meetings and currently she serves as one of the three indigenous Pacific representatives on the Global Steering Committee for the International Decade of Indigenous Languages.”
