Chancellor's Message to the Community

Aloha Kauaʻi Community College ʻOhana

April 2, 2020

It is my sincerest hope that each of us is healthy, well and staying safe. It is evident during this difficult time for all of us, the challenges we face both individually and collectively seriously tests the spirit of Aloha and the strength of our ‘Ohana. At this point we can only imagine the lasting impact this pandemic will leave on us once we are on the other side of it. No doubt we will continue to be challenged and our spirit will continue to be stretched.

While we push forward and do the best we can under extraordinary circumstances, let’s pause and reflect on how we have come together in support of one another, and our students. As your chancellor, and as the newest member of this learning community, I have witnessed the professional and positive ways in which we have responded to the many changes requested and required of us, to ensure our students can continue to be successful.

None of this has been easy. None of this will continue to be easy, at least not for the foreseeable future. Yet, what I do see are exceptionally dedicated, talented, flexible and selfless administrators, faculty and staff committed to each other, and especially to our students who face a litany of personal, family, school, work and life challenges as well. Please stay well and be well!

My appreciation for all of your work, dedication and accomplishment on behalf of the students we serve is without measure.

Let’s trust that what we do now and what we do next, though difficult, will strengthen our resolve, strengthen our commitment to our mission, and to our students, and strengthen our ‘Ohana.  Together, we will get through this. It is my belief that this experience can and will eventually serve as a light that shines brightly on all of us who have shared in this journey.

It is a privilege for me to serve you as your chancellor.

E mālama pono,

Joe
