Hidden Heroes of Live Events

Event Technology

The ubiquity of live events comes from the unparalleled excitement while experiencing music, engaging presenters, dance and theatrical performances. Kaua’i is a hub for talented musicians and artists who bring us together at their live performances to enrich our lives. Well before any professional event happens, technical specialists are hard at work planning the details needed to deliver a flawless event.

In the past, these hidden heroes were called Audio/Visual Technicians. Today, they are often referred to as technical specialists in the Event Technology field. The new name is justified given the scope of productions and the sophistication of equipment needed, including advanced sound equipment and computer-controlled lighting and visual-display systems.

Kaua’i CC’s Creative Media Degree program now offers hands-on courses to become a skilled technical specialist. Our Event Technology classes teach students how to setup and operate equipment for live events; from microphones, digital audio mixers and public address systems for small bands, to advanced visual-display and computer-controlled lighting systems for larger events. Skilled lecturers in a supportive learning environment teach these structured lessons.

Students can earn a certificate in Event Technology that directly applies to an Associate of Science Degree in Creative Media at Kaua’i CC. As a part of the University of Hawaii system, students may continue on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Media at UH West Oahu, the same campus that is building a 24/7 Feature Film production facility.

Live event technical specialists are valued on Kaua’i and are well compensated for their expertise. Every day, local residents and visitors enjoy performances that would not take place without these behind-the-scene heroes. If you have an interest in this exciting and dynamic field, consider enrolling in “Introduction to Event Technology”, offered by Kaua’i CC’s new Creative Media Degree program.
