Duration: A year-long (begins in Fall) study abroad program. The application is now open for a program starting in Fall 2024.
 

 School Highlights:

  • A public university located in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan
  • Student population of about 10,000 at three different campuses. 
  • Yamaguchi has good access to big cities such as Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima via Shinkansen (bullet train)
  • Yamaguchi University offers off-campus housing for international students which is about a 15 minute bike ride from their campus.  They also rent out bicycles to international students.  The rent is about $200 - 300/month.
  • They have a “duddy system” to support international students, where every international student is matched with a Yamaguchi University student.  
  • Yamaguchi University international student club also offers regular events to integrate international students to the campus as well as the local community. 

Program Options: 

Students can choose to study in the Faculty of Global and Science Studies (An official Japanese language proficiency score is not required. Students can take courses in both English and Japanese), or other Faculties based on your academic interests (but your need to meet their minimum Japanese proficiency requirements of Level N4 or above). Deadlines:

Application for a year-long program starting in Fall 2024 (October 2024) is now open!  Please submit your application documents to Kaua'i CC International Program Coordinator (kyokoi@hawaii.edu) by January 19 (Fri), 2024. Once you are selected by Kauai CC, you will then fill out Yamaguchi University applications and submit them in March 2024.

Steps:

  • Complete the Kaua'i CC study abroad application. It will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. 
  • Download the Faculty Recommendation Form and ask your reference to fill it out and send it directly to the International Education Coordinator (kyokoi@hawaii.edu) via e-mail or fax by the deadline.
  • Attach a typed 1-page personal statement addressing the following question: "Why is it important for you to study abroad and what do you hope to gain and to contribute to the program?"

Minimum Requirements:

  • Full-time Kaua'i CC Student
  • Completed 24 college credits before the start of the program
  • Good academic and personal standing
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
